Default 140 - 160 MPH Speedo Swap into 1966 Mustang

I have a 1966 Mustang and I am upgrading the gauges.I bought the Auto Meter Ultra light series with the 160 MPH speedometer. Currently my speedometer is the original 140 MPH gauge. Auto Meter does not make a 140 MPH gauge. It seems that they only make 2 different speedo cables and the only difference is the bolt size and thread count. Has anyone made this swap before? will my original speedo cable work with the 160 gauge?

Thanks

Hey there,

I have not seen the back of an autometer speedometer but if mates to it you shouldnt have a problem, if your last speedo was reading accurate the autometer should since its only reading the revolutions of the cable. So going from 140 to 160 will not effect anything.

The factory mustang speedo cable has a round fastener and the internal cable is square shaped so you should see a square in the middle of the autometer cable portion. Thread count and such Im not sure.

If your mph reading is slightly off you can get different speedo gears from california mustang and other vendors, In the california mustang catalog its page 115 in the 2007-2008 catalog. Swaping the gears is VERY easy and is located on the left side of the tranny.

I hope I helped Im in a rush so I hope I made sense, heh heh Good luck
