Default Trying to fit Fmx transmission shaft into 1965 rear end.

I got a 1965 mustang with a 302 and a FMX transmission out of a 1974 torino according to the transmission tag. The rear end locked up and chucked the drive shaft. I got another drive shaft out of a 1965 mustang and a replacement yoke for the FMX transmission. My problem is getting U-joints for the yoke and the drive shaft that will fit. Any help greatly appreciated.

P.S. the car was a 4 lug 6-cylinder and the car has been converted to a 5-lug after the rear end locked up. Is there a difference in the drive shafts?

There is a difference in drive shafts. The 6 cyl shaft uses smaller and weaker U-joints than the V8 shaft. If I were you, I'd get one from a V8 car or have one made. Those small U-joints and the small diameter of the 6 cyl shaft will not hold up if you do any kind of spirited driving. If you decide to keep what you have, go to a place that specializes in drive lines. There are "hybrid" U-joints available and these places carry them. Most of the V8 shafts are 2 3/4 inch to 3 inch. Some of the 6 cyl cars had a 2 1/2 inch shaft and some had 2 3/4 shafts.

You didn't mention the length. They vary according to trans type and rear end type. You will want a 1 inch amount of freedom for the slip yoke.
