Default trouble shifting in an automatic... what's wrong?

the transmission on my 65 is a three speed automatic... for some reason it has a hard time shifting into third which is right at 45 mph. it will shift up but immediately goes back down, making the car jerk violently. it does this like three times and then finally stays in third. what's causing this?

check vacuum source as well it may have a pinhole in the vacuum hose to the tranny. w/o proper vacuum it won't shift into third or won't shift at all.

on the back of the intake and runs down to the back of the trans to a little round 1 1/2" vacuum modulator that sticks out 2".

if it is hooked up then take to a shop
