Default 1969 Mustang Brake troubleshooting

Hi all,
Wondering if I could get some advice on an issue. As mentioned in my intro I am deployed I have a 1969 Boss (clone as it has a 351w). It has the original drum brakes (will get rid of those eventually but need to get her road ready soon). My wife tells me when you drive her you have to tap the brake first before she will grab. The car wil stop but you have to pump the pedal first. My first thought was master cylinder as the previous owner bought a refurbished one, but may be a bleeding issue. I have redone drum brakes before but re-did the whole system at once, as troubleshooting isnt my forte. Any thoughts?

If it was air in the system the brake pedal would feel spongy, I don't think thats your problem. Has anyone checked the fluid level in the master cylinder. If it's not low it would be your master cylinder bypassing internal. If your low on fluid more than likely one of your wheel cylinders is leaking, also check the 2 brake hoses on your front brakes & one brake hose from the chassis to the rear end. Good Luck & THANKS for YOUR SERVICE, what branch are you in???

Default Thanks Bob!

Thanks I will have to check that when I get back (dont want the wife meesing with trying to jack the car and pull tires). Wheel Cylinders are easy I have done those before so hopefully that is the problem. I will have her check the fluid level though. Although I am real sketchy about rebult parts so that MasterCylinder should probably go too. I am Army, been over here around 14 months and about ready to go home.
