Default 1968 Mustang Coupe Automatic To Manual Transmission (swap)

I recently acquired a new toy...a 1968 Coupe and It came with a 302 but no transmission. It was originally an automatic but I want to swap it over to a manual for something a little more fun to drive. I have a 3 speed manual transmission that I could probably use but I don't know if it will fit...but I can get a t-5 or a 4speed. If someone has done one of these manual to automatic swaps could you please reply with a parts list and step by step process. Also let me know if any complications arise in the process like cutting the pans etc. I have checked other forums but there is really no concise answer so I figured i would ask swap it out and then I would be able to help out some people in the future!

Thanks

You need the clutch and brake pedals the cross member and a lot of other things i can't think of right now.Go for the t5 you'll love the over drive gear on the tranny.

in addition, cable clutch, clutch and flywheel (of course), driveshaft yoke, shorter driveshaft (could have yours shortened). Apparently, you can just cut off part of the brake pedal to fit the stick shift brake pedal, so there's $20 or so saved right there. Oh yeah, you'll need a shifter, too. And shift boot. You probably won't be able to reach a late-model T5 shifter. It's possible to fabricate your ow.

I'd use a cable clutch as opposed to the mechanical linkage. But that's just me. When I priced it out, it was about $800 using a modified stock transmission crossmember and t-5 with bellhousing, yoke and clutch (no flywheel) from a wrecked fox body, and the rest all new components. Flywheel-$150, flywheel balancing-$50-100, shortened driveshaft-$50-100, clutch cable kit-$250, clutch pedal-$20-30, shifter-$50.

The quote above is in the ball park that I got, anywhere from $1000- $1400... but Im in Northern Cal so somethings are more based on labor. I was quoted $200 for the driveshaft (cut and balancing). This does not include installation labor or the price for the trans.

My method is the ultra-cheap, do-it-yourself method, using as many used parts as possible. Plus a cable clutch. Most of the cost you were quoted is in the transmission. I plan on getting a junker tranny, taking it easy until I earn some money, then put in some high-strength components. Should cost about the same in the long run.
