Default 1967 Steering Wheel Play

I have a 1967 Coupe. The steering wheel seems to have too much play. I can turn the wheel a good one inch before it seems to engage the tires to move. No power steering with this car. Does this sound like something in the steering shaft or something a bit more involved?

Thanks

you should replace or rebuild your steering box and replace the ball joint that connects the steering linkage to the pitman arm, if it has one.

67's don't have a coupler like a 68+

There is an adjusting nut on the top of the steering box. If its never been adjusted then you should be ok to get 1 more adjustment out of it before rebuilding it.

Its in the manual so read up before performing this, if you adjust too much then the wheel will act like it is in a bind when turning side to side.
