Default 1964-1966 Mustang radio options

looking for a radio that will fit my stock dash.. I know I can get the specialty ones from NPD or CJPP... but I am looking for a cheaper alternative.. 180 for a tape player is a little much.... what brand/ models have people run in the stock dash?

Custom Autosound makes replacement decks that can be augmented with cd players and iPod connections. Don't remember how much they cost, but Mustangs Unlimited sells 'em, as do most major Mustang restoration suppliers.

65-66 Mustangs are the worst to find aftermarket radios for since the shafts weren't in line with the dial, they sat higher than what a normal DIN C installation was.

Custom Autosound radios are the only option I know of out there for aftermarket replacement radios for this installation even though they lack in the quality department.

What do you want out of the radio? You could keep the original AM radio, put a little better speaker on it and get a FM converter if all you want is music since the AM band is a wasteland in certain areas. I did this to my 68 until I had the AM radio gutted and modern AM/FM guts installed in it.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Hey Jay H, how did you go about doing that to your radio? Im also looking for another radio to put in but i do not like the after market radio looks. I seen you can pick up an original am radio for about 10 bucks on ebay. That way she can get the Fm radio she wants and i can be happy that it still looks original

Id do like most people leave the factory radio in the hole or get a delete plate and mount a din size in the glove box or under the dash in a custom console. Custom Autosound is crap my step dad had one in his 55 chevy it lasted about a year and died they wouldn't replace it fix it.Out of all honestly they sound like crap too.His car we put the broke factory radio back in it and mounted a din size under the dash even with the same speakers it sounds a lot better and was cheaper too.

I sent the AM radio to American Classic Restorations in MA for the conversion. It cost me $400 but I paid extra to have the knobs rechromed. There was nothing wrong with the FM converter, it's just that ACR was doing other work for me when I decided to have them do the conversion.

I go into a little detail on my radio on my webpage here, radio_speaker

I do like the looks of the original radios better too and why I pulled my aftermarket out and went back to an AM like what the car had from the factory.
