Default Anyone rebuild their factory radio? 1965 Mustang

Anyone rebuild their stock radio. I have one in my '65 that i'd like to get working again. There has to be a common item that needs to be replaced.

Also, the lowest number on the radio is a 6 not a 5 - is this radio from an older car perhaps?

Andrew, he's not looking for the conversion, rather to get the original going again.

Look in Hemmings Motor News as there are people out there that repair the original radios. Here's a place that is in the family of a VMFer, Home

Sometimes you just have to carefully take them apart and clean them. You will need tuner cleaner from Radio Shack. I have an original 68 AM/FM stereo radio from a Mustang I was given that I took apart and cleaned up and got it working again. I would put it in my car but the dial lens is cracked and missing a piece, the reason it was just given to me plus being in the right place at the right time. It's NOT for sale!!! I'm keeping it for a future project car and watch Ebay to hopefully find another dial lens for it.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

what exactly are you repairing? It is possible to repair it, Its just a piece of electronics, you just have to know what to replace it with - Like the characteristics of each component. Most of the time it will say it on the part, Like a capacitor will say 1 uF and maybe another thing, and a risistor would say something like 1k Ohms just take it to your local electronics store. I havent opened mine, but mine is working, but i work on communication radios in the air force and have schematics of everything i work on

do you have a basic electronic and soldering knowledge? if you need any help let me know

I am going to check around with some of the local radio / cb type shops to see if they can assist. I can't see paying $300+ for a repair on a factory radio. I may go through one of those places on Hemmings if the price is right.

Here are a few links that may help:
Hagentech Radio Repair
Antique Radio : Antique Radios: Repair and Restoration

I hear they also sell the parts if you are courageous enough to do it yourself

Check out this website. A bit pricey but you keep the original look with all modern guts.

Convert your classic Mustang AM radio to AM/FM/CD stereo!
