It can, but it needs a little help. It's not a direct bolt on, because the two suspension are so differant.
In the front, Fat Man Fabrications makes a kit to convert an old Mustang to a strut suspension using new Mustang parts. It's a pretty slick deal. Completly bolt in, no welding or fabrications.
The rear is another story. The 8.8 doesn't bolt in directly. The width isn't right, and neither is the offset. You would need a custom built housing. It can be done, but it's pretty expensive.
I remember another company was working on an bolt in 8.8 IRS set up. Seemed pretty expensive, though.
