66 289 mustang question

Hello good people, can i attach the standard cast iron exhaust manifolds to the engine before installing the engine in the engine bay or do i install the engine and attach the manifolds after? Im worried about clearance, any advise appreciated, Claude, Melbourne Australia.

As long as the 289 hasn't had exhaust modifications, it should drop right in.

My Hipo K eng came with cast iron manifolds which were heavier and had larger collector size inside, and snuggled right in when lowering the engine.

Hi Claude.
Yes they were installed from factory woth the exhaust manifolds on so there should be no problem.

When installing in a freshly painted engine bay you'll want to protect the critical areas with several layers of masking tape. Sometimes I'll use a layer of masking tape and a second layer of duct tape.
