Default Need C-4 Transmission Information without a Data Plate

I have a 1965 Mustang Convertible with a 1966 289 engine. The transmission doesn't have a date plate on it, is there another way to figure out the year and information of the transmission. There is a number on the top of the casing that is stamped in. The # is 8R511005, does that mean anything? Thanks for any help you can give.

Brad,

I have no idea how to find info for your transmission. I just hated to see any post go unanswered. Hopefully by bringing it back up to the top, someone will take notice.

Cheers,

Michael

I looked in my Ford parts interchange manual but that stamped number isn't mentioned. The manual goes by the ID tag which is missing on yours.

You need to look for the casting code on the trans housing. It looks just like a ford part number. The first two letters/number will ID which year trans it is. For example C= 1960s D= 1970s The second number is the year in the decade. C6= 1966.

Check these sites out.
