I have a 289, I just got some long tube ceramic headers with a 3'' outlet.
I am currently looking for an exhaust system to mate with it, Originally I planned on using some flowmaster series 40's duel system. But thinking about it, I plan on using this as a daily, to haul friends around and such, and I would actually like to hear the radio and chat with them
Does anyone have any suggestions for a different duel setup? I'm looking to still keep that nice throaty sound without havinging to deal with over powering interior sound.
i agree. 2.5 inch is plenty big for a 289, an h-pipe and some magnaflows or flowmasters

I just putr that summit system on my 66 vert... not too loud, nice and throaty at idle... havent had the car out on the road yet to tell you how it sounds at speed..

2 1/2 inch piping would give you a deep growl and that kit looks good to me. You could also go with Dynomax Super Turbos, Magnaflow, Hooker, those will give a good sound but not get intrusive to the interior.

Thanks for the responses all, I'm going to check out some of the suggestions, and c6matt, a sound clip when you get on the road would be sweet unless thats far away.
I would go with 2.25 if you want it to be quiet, the larger pipes are going to make it louder and sound more like a drone and unless you make alot of power 2.5 is overkill on a 289 IMO.
Dynomax sounds good and isnt too loud, i hear the summits sound pretty nice. Most turbo mufflers will sound good and not too loud.
X pipe is more for high rpm and H is more for low, I dont think they make much of a difference if you ask me other than the X pipe working a little better and sounding a little crappier (in my opinion at least).

hell, go with some flowmasters. just talk louder, and play the music louder, and you'll have no problem. also try double layers of soundproof mats, i did that on mine, and it helped a bit.
I put 3 chamber flowmaster on my Fastback and its nice inside and has what I think is nice sound when you step on it.I don't remember the other numbers but I do know they are 3 chambers.
On my son's 1966 C code coupe, last month we put on JBA mid length headers, Flowmaster 40 series mufflers and 2.5" exhaust with an H-pipe. This was to replace the original single exhaust. From the outside of the car it's pretty loud, but inside it's not bad at all. One consideration: as this is a California car, the smog pipes had to be removed and the bolts to plug the holes in the heads had to be machined. This added a bit to the cost.
