Default 1966 Mustang, Problems with Brake Conversion

I have a 66 mustang that I have just finished putting the brake conversion from drums to discs all around. The kit from SSBC came with a dual master cylinder and a power booster. Several problems... Because the car was originally manual brakes do I just install the master cylinder and not the power booster? If so, how do I install the old pushrod onto the new master cylinder, as stated in the directions? If I can use the power booster how do I hook it up to vacuum as stated in the directions? This is confusing now...

Can you tell us what the directions say in hooking up the system with the power booster ? I would think that you would need to put a "T" in the line that comes from the one valve cover as I've seen this mod. before with another kit.

All the directions say is to hook it up to a vacuum. That's it but can you use the booster even tho the car didn't have power brakes before? The directions state and even an article that I read in Mustangs Monthly said not to use it if the car was originally Manual.

yes you can use the power brake conversion if it was designed as a kit. by ssbc when you hook the booster up to vacuum all you need to do is hook it into the intake manifold vacuum. there is likely an area on your manifold where one of the vacuum lines has been capped off, if not you can just tee into it. the real question is whether the kit is designed for a 66 as there is very little room for the power booster. it either has to be a small 7 inch booster or you have to use a late model plastic master cylinder,

There should be a vacuum source located on the rear driver's side of the intake manifold if you have the V8 engine. All of the pertinent info should be on the instruction sheet. If not, give SSBC a phone call.

Did you have manual brakes, single bowl master cylinder to begin with? Did the SSBC parts bolt right up? I have manual drums and I'm thinking about the SSBC setup also.

I have completed my brake system finally. I did have manual drums with a single bowl. Other than the brackets that were used to mount the booster to the firewall, everything bolted in fairly easily. The brackets and booster were just a little time consuming and knuckle busting but I got them in. Bleeding the system took some time also. You have to check and make sure that all your fittings are tight. A couple of turns at some of them and I was good. Bled the system and I'm ready to rock.

Was that the A120D kit? That's the one I was looking at, about $950 from Summit.

I got my kits from Mustangs Unlimited. The front was 1099 and the back was 899. I did replace the entire rearend also which was about 1500. The kits were fairly easy to change. I did change out all the brake line also. They were only about 50 bucks or so.

I too have the SSBC kit on the front and I installed it myself with little brake experience. I ended up messing up on the install of the dual bowl master cylinder, so someone turned me onto a power booster (out of a 78 corvette). It is small diameter but thick and tucks perfectly right in the corner. I have yet to replace all the brake lines for the whole car so we shall she how she works in time.

Good luck

Where did you get ypur rear-end? Is it 8"?, 9"??
$1500 seems just a little bit steep to me
