Default Tranny selector indicator light

I was reading a wiring diagram, and I realized, umm, should I have a tranny selector light in my 67 Coupe? It's an auto tranny. But it's a 66 diagram I was looking at, so I would assume a 67 would have one too. I see the 2 wires that it says I should have in the "Accessories" diagram. It says there should be the ground wire which is grounded to the floor pan and then I see another wire that goes into the shifter. Is this for my bulb? I've never followed the wire to see where it goes, I just know it's there.

yup, you're right. there is a floor shift indicator light. the only thing i fool with is 67/68 mustangs and EVERYONE has one unless otherwise altered by a previous owner. there will be a wire running under the carpet from the dash area into a 2-wire pigtail. on the other side of the pigtail you have 2 wires running to the light socket. your ground wire will run back out of the other side of the pigtail and be grounded to the floor board. hope this helps, need anything else? just lemme know

Has anyone changed the tranny selector indicator light to some normal light bulb? I don't want to pay $40 just for the indicator light. I tried to take to light bulb out from the socket and replace it but apparently socket is fixed to bulb. Anyone changed it to some normal 12V bulb?

On my 67 with a console the bulb is replacable. The $40.00 is for the whole assembly. I'll check which bulb it is and post again.

Try an 1893 bulb.

The shifter indicator light is enclosed in a metal fixture. If you look at it closely you will see that it slides apart and inside is the bulb. I had to look at mine a couple of times to see how it comes apart. It only has one wire going to it (Black/Blue Stripe) and the metal enclosure must be mounted to a metal surface because it is the ground for the bulb.

Thanks for replies. I need to take it out again and look more closely.
