Default 67 6cyl 3 speed manual - brakes

I have a 67 6cyl with a 3 speed manual tran. I will be putting a 289/5 speed in it one fine day, but for now I need to convert to disc brakes. Everything I read up til now said I needed to convert the spindle to a 8 cyl but the kit I'm looking at says their's fits right on my original spindles. Any thoughts? I'm looking at CSRP for the kit.

If you're swapping to a V8, upgrade to V8 spindles. 6-cyl. spindles aren't meant to take the extra stresses of keeping a big V8 under control. From what I understand, the 68-up spindles are the strongest and still fit the 65-67 suspensions. Just use 68 disc brake kits. This way you can upgrade to Willwood brakes eventually, which are pretty racy.

Yes. You need V8 spindles. I bought a '66 w/a 302 and 6-cyl suspension and I had a spindle break and when the car landed on the lower control arm it caused all kinds of havoc. I eventually had to replace both control arms and have a body shop pull the shock tower out 1/2 inch because it got bent in the fall. A couple of bucks now will save you hundreds down the road.

The spindles were the same on the '67 for V8 vs 6 cyl. The 65-66 were different, but the spindles were the same after '66. The differences came in '68 and on with the disc brakes using a different casting to mount direct to the spindle instead of a bracket.

I have seen this info elsewhere too somewhere in the fordsix forums.
