Default 65 Mustang C-Code Differences?

Can someone explain this whole "code" thing. I know my Mustang is a C-Code due to the VIN, but what does that mean? What is the difference between it and an A-Code? I googled it and all I can really tell is that the A-Code had a four barrel carb and a little bit different compression compared to the C-Code that has a 2 barrel. Is there more?

Hello. That's pretty much it. The C in the vin means exactly that, that your car came with a 289 2bbl. An A code is a 289 with a 480 cfm 4bbl, and the K code is the high performance, solid lifter, 271 hp 289 with a 600 cfm 4bbl.

Thanks. I have one more question, though. There are two carbs -- the autolite 2100 and the Motorcraft 2150 -- mine has the motorcraft. Which one would have come on the car originally?

Autolite would have been the carb. The name Motorcraft came later in life.

Is one better than the other? Will it affect anything? What would be required to convert to a 4 bbl setup?

You'll at least need a 4BBL Carb, 4 BBL Carb Spacer, 4 BBL Intake Manifold, and gaskets. The linkage may be different too.
