Default 1968 289 Rebuild cost

Hello,

I am debating a rebuild for my original 289. I am just curious as to what is a decent price for a rebuild. A local machine shop qouted me $810, that includes top and bottom rebuild, new gaskets, rings, bored .30 over new cam, lifters etc. with a one year unlimited milage warranty.

does that sound about right? I think it sounds too low to be worth pursuing. I do not know any local mustang enthusiasts so I have no one locally to bounce this off of. In addition I don't have anyone to suggest a good shop.

I have oil getting on some plugs and I sometimes blow smoke out the exhaust. thats the reason for the rebuild.

I appreciate everyone's time and replies to come.

Everyone is always helpful.

Is that total for parts and labor? Cause if it is I think that it sounds like a good price. Or you could do it yourself. lol.

Default Excellent Price

Even if that's just the machine work. It's an excellent price. How many miles on the engine? It's not uncommon for you to spend somewhere in that price range on just the heads when you take into consideration valves, guides, seats, and resurfacing. You'll spend a few hundred on valves alone if you look into higer end items.
