1965 2bbl carb swap? I bought a 65 C code coupe about three or four weeks ago. It has been mostly redone, but still has some great strides to make -- new paint, emblems, etc. It is a solid car, no rust, very little bondo (only one spot on rear qtr panel), but one area that I am struggling is under the hood. It was flooding due to a stuck float. Rebuilt the carb. That took care of the flooding, but it would never smooth out and went dead when shifted into gear. I changed the plugs (set them to .035), checked and set the points(.017), dwell (27), timing (8 btdc), installed new vac. advance, but it is still rough. A friend had another oldFord carb, bolted it on and that seemed to do the trick. I was able to idle it down, it didn't go dead when shifted into reverse or drive. But when I got out on the road at say, 45 mph, it started bogging down. Changed the fuel filter, which seemed to help it, but not completely. I don't know what carb we switched to, can't see any i.d. info. But I would like to start with a brand new or remanufactured 2 bbl carb -- one that I can identify -- and I need to know what some good options are? I don't understand CFM. What is it? What did the original carb have (CFM-wise)? And what CFM do I need (Not too little, not too much?) I am trying to erase all doubts about the carb. If I know it is good and that don't fix it, I will know my problem is somewhere else. Thanks for the help> |
