Default 66 mustang c4 tansmission problem

I have 66 mustang with the i6 200 sprint and C4 transmission. it seems when i shift in to drive it seems that my transmission starts in second gear. and it wont excelerate. when you floor it it shifts down real quick and it then shifts back to second gear. i have replaced the vacuum modulator and tried to adjust the kick down cable. the timing is correct and the valves have just been lashed. i replaced teh fuel pump. i cant thank of any thing else. any one give me any other ideas i am open. thank.

Which "Drive" are you using?? Do you use the single dot or the dot with the circle around it?

My car did the same thing but there was nothing wrong. If you put the shifter where a normal drive would be it starts in second then shifts to third. It was meant as drive for winter driving. If you pull the shifter down one more notch (where second normally is on newer cars) that is the real Drive position and you get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Hopefully it is something that simple.
