Default 1965 Mustang - broken clutch equalizer rod

My clutch pedal dropped to the floor yesterday morning as I went to start the car, and the equalizer rod is broken near the clutch fork. Attached is a pic of the broken rod and of the z-bar and clutch fork looking rearward. You can see the other part of the rod still stuck in the fork. It looks like the pointed end of the rod has pushed a hole through the back of the fork, but maybe a hole is supposed to be there? There is a clutch pedal return spring under the dash, but no other springs attached the z-bar. The fork has a hole in the end but no spring has ever been attached as far as I know.

What's weird is the rod connection at the fork is about 2 inches outboard of the z-bar connection. So the rod is not lined up straight and it has worn away part of the z-bar pin and I think the additional bending stress may be what caused the rod to break over time.

Does anyone know what the clutch linkage should look like for this 65 mustang? Build Date - 4/15/65, C Code engine - 289 2V V8, 4sp T10 manual trans.

Maybe the car has the wrong z-bar or clutch fork? My fork has that v-shape in the top, but I'm not seeing that in the parts catalogs.

thanks for the help

There should not be a hole in the clutch fork. When the car was new, there was a slight indention in the fork that the equalizer rod sat in. Over the years the end of the equalizer rod has slowly pushed against that indentation until it finally went through.

If you need pictures, go to www.cjponyparts.com

Here are your part numbers:

Clutch equalizer rod: CRL1 or CRL3 (depending on application)

Clutch fork: C5OZ7515B

Hope this helps!
