Default What is the main cause for door sagging?

I'm referring to the common door sag, not damage. Is it the pin and bushings in the door hinge, or are other parts of the hinge causing problems as well, typically?

Probably just worn out bushings, but check to see if the bushing holes are elongated at all, if they are out of round, (they will get that way if the bushing is gone for too long) then you will need new hinges, because bushings will wear out very fast in a elongated hole. Good luck. Door hinges are a biatch to do. Bushings and pins are not that bad, but if it is a classic, make sure you have help cuz the doors are about 45 lbs and not easy to handle alone.

I just did a rebushing on the drivers door. It helped for a few days then it started dragging again. I think the hinges are shot. Like Bill said check the holes real good, mine wasn't perfect and its sagging again. So i'm going with new hinges also and be done with it. And you will need some help when you pull off the hinges because the bolting backing plate will fall down and its a pain to get back n place. Plus you need someone outside the car to start the bolts after you get the plate in place.

on my 67 I bought a kit that had the bushings and the pins. it turns out that was a good idea as the pin was worn quite a bit on the drivers side. that would have caused the new bushings to fail in short order so if you intend to rebuild the hinges I would replace the pins as well. replacing the whole hinge is not all that hard if the fender is off with help but it is very difficult without removing the front fender as it is very hard to avoid chipping the paint of the fender or bending the metal trying to get a socket on the bolts between the crack between the door and fender. (yes I tried on my 65, and failed.)

I have not seen those before looks like a great design. only downside is you have to remove all four hinges at once.

Not to interrupt the original intent of this thread, but mccance, is that your car in Modified Mustangs and Fords Magazine? Had to ask because the name and look inside the engine compartment is the same.

Thats one gorgeous Mustang. I know how much work went into it. My sons are 30 and 34 and both worked with me on my and their cars. It was a blessing because it taught them a good work ethic and a love for classic cars. Good luck with that Mustang. It must fly with that supercharger on it.

I purchased some pins and bushings from Mustangs Unlimited but the pins are quite a bit longer than the originals, is this normal?

Are there any instructions for installing the pins and bushings?

Default I documented it

I documented this exactly thing on my web site. The pins are long you just cut them to length. I took pictures as I replaced both side bushings and pins.

Take a look at the site.

Thanks Dan!

Once you put the new pin in do you have to do anything to hold it in place? It looks like the oem has something on the bottom holsing it in place.

Do you think this is possible to do while the door is on the car (with some help)?
