Default Anyone running E85 in their vintage Mustang?

Just curious if any of you are running or have tried E85 (or a mix with gasoline) in your Mustang. If so did it run well or did you have to change the timing/crab adjustments to make it work right.

Not planning on running it in my car now but someday might if the need comes up and wondering if it will be ok and if there are any issues that I need to watch out for.

An E85 conversion will require more than just jetting and timing adjustments. You'll need to switch to all steel or nylon fuel lines because the alcohol will eat away at the rubber. Also, I don't think that the normal adjustments available in a gasoline carburetor are great enough to properly use E85. There are E85-specific carbs that are modified to use the fuel. Thing about alcohol is that it requires about 30% more fuel per cubic foot of air. In other words, your ideal air-fuel ratio will be closer to ~10:1 as opposed to 14.7:1 for gasoline.

I just got my351 c back from the builders and it is set up to run e 85. We went with a new e 85 carb instead of trying to rejet the stock carb ended up about 9.7 a/f mix. One mis conseption out threre is a confusion between ethonal and methonal e 855 is made with ethonal and will not damage plastic or rubber parts. Also it will yeild about 107 octane and will run well in high compression engines. My new engine is runing 11.9:1 and made 485hp on the dyno. I live in rural Ill and have three ethonal plants within 30 miles of me so e 85 is readley available and about a dollar cheaper than unleaded.

My mustang has all new stainless fuel lines so those should be ok. It sounds like the couple of rubber pieces may be a concern as well as perhaps the diaphragm in the fuel pump. Other than that the main issue is with the carb.

I have a 2 barrel carb on the car now. Is there a ready made E85 replacement carb for a 2 barrel?

Also, it seems that since the carb adjustments are so different that it is either gas or E85. No mixing since that would set the adjustment in the middle somewhere.

I don't have any plans to try E85 at the moment but want to keep my options open if at some point it becomes wildly popular and gas is hard to get.

Thanks for the feedback.
