Question AOD Swap - trans shift shaft wrong..

I've installed an AOD in my car, have used an early AOD shifter from Mustang (mid to late 80s version) but the transmission shift arm length is not right, as the shifter detents for the various gears don't sync up with the transmission pattern.

can anyone tell me the distance (center to center) from the transmission shift shaft centerline to the center of the cable attachment hole? I think that the trans may have come out of a full sized car and someone flipped the shaft so the arm is facing down, but not "adjusted" the location of the shift cable attachment hole.

I don't know if this helps, it probably doesn't. What year is your car? I put an AOD in mine and I can help you if you use your original shifter.

I've got a cable shifter from an '86 Mustang... I know that the transmission shift arm is not the right length, but don't know what length is should be.

I've got a spare AOD, am going to have it rebuilt, and want to make sure that the shift lever is lengthened, or shortened, to match up with the throw of the shifter..

I got my AOD out of a Mercury and had to rotate the trans shaft up so it would work with my stock 66 shifter in the car. I wound up drilling a hole about 3/4 of an inch 'down' on the trans shifter arm and that worked perfect.
Hope that helps. Perhaps you could get a shaft from a 86 trans?

Hmmm...
I'm not trying to use an early Mustang shifter...

I have a passenger car trans and want to use a cable shifter from an 86 Mustang..

Trans has shift lever for column linkage.. need info on measurements of trans lever - distance from shaft center to cable connection hole...
