Default 1965 Mustang wiring conversion to GT wiring

I've converted my 1965 Mustang from "normal" wiring to GT wiring so I can use the GT dash cluster. I can't find any diagrams that show the correct routing across the engine, including the J clamps, and also need help with the connections to the alternator. Pictures would be better but any help is appreciated!

I already have the gauges. However, there wasn't any wiring left on the motor or to the alternator so I need to see the correct way to install/connect the new wiring.

You need the wiring harness then.

You need to get the reprint of the Ford factory assembly manual. National Parts Depot has them for each year. The manuals are broken down to Body, Interior, Electrical, Weld/Sealant, Chassis and Engine. The Electrical manual shows diagrams of how all of the harnesses are routed and then there is also the schematic diagrams included.

The part number is L-33B for the 65 Electrical Manual at the price of $16.00 These manuals have been a source of info that isn't seen anywhere else and I can truly say that I've just about worn my manuals out, I've used them so much.

You may also need the 66 Electrical manual P/N L-33C $16.00.

Hello. If you go here The Care and Feeding of Ponies: April 2008 and scroll down the page, you will find a piece called instrument cluster removal that has a diagram of how the insrtument cluster is supposed to be wired. Further down the page there is a piece called alternator and charging system that has the wiring diagrams for a car with gauges and a car with idiot lights sitting right beside each other. That will show you what changes you need to make to your car to get the ammeter gauge to work like a 66. The 65 cars with gauges had a different system on the ammeter gauge than a 66, and the 65 style ammeter gauge will be virtually immpossible to find, so, you might want to go with the 66 style gauge. The routing of the wiring under the hood is the same. You will need to replace the oil pressure sending unit for one that works with the gauge, though. Hope that helps.
