Default problem changing out dash lights- 1968

So while the instrument cluster is out for the wiring harness swap, I decided to change out all the instrument lights.

Problem is that some separated- the black rubber on the wire came apart from the star that holds the bulb in place. Has this happened to anyone else? and how did you remedy it. Can you just glue it back together. I can post some pics, but it may be a few days before I can get to it.

Thanks

middlebay, as I recall, that is just an electrical insulator from the dash to prevent electrical contact. You might want to try just wrapping electrical tape around them or maybe even a bead of caulk.
Good Luck,
Rich

If I recall correctly, the plastic holds the star shaped piece together and can't be repaired. I had to replace them with some good used sockets which I spliced into the wiring. They aren't available in repro form that I know of, but one of the specialty wiring harness companies like Painless Wiring may sell them.

If there are any 60s era Fords around, they all used the same pieces. A trip to the U-Pull-It yard may yield what you need. This is where I found mine.
