Default 1966 Mustang 289 coil location

Hello, I have a 66 C-code 289 Mustang. My coil is located on the intake manifold, but I have seen several others located on the right front of the block just above the alternator. Which would be correct, or were both locations used at the factory?
Thanks in advance and enjoy the Holiday, Tom.

It might depend on accessories. With AC it's in a different location, etc.

Thanks for your reply. The car does have AC. I will now monitor photos of AC cars and check the coil location on them.
Thanks again, Tom.

Not positive if it is correct or not, but I have a 66 C-code with AC. The coil was mounted as you described, above the alternator. There are a few pictures on my profile page. Hope this helps.

I don't know myself but when I researched it I found this web site. he says the 64.5 is mounted on the manifold and the 65 is mounted on the head.

64½ vs. 65 Mustang Engine Compartment, Exhaust & Transmission Differences

it is number 30 btw.
I think veronica is the resident 64.5 guru maybe she knows?

I does matter with the accessories. The electrical installation manual, at least for a 68, has the coil on the head and the manifold. They say the manifold gets to hot, and will shorten the life of your coil. I have seen a few pictures of the coil mounted on the driver's side head- I'm thinking of moving mine there, as here seems to be a lot more room in that area on my non-ac car.

On my bare bones, power nothing, no A/C 289 the coil is mounted on the front of the block.

My 66 C-code with only power steering and 289, 2 barrel was mounted on the intake manifold. When I changed engines to my 347, I moved it to the driver's side inner fender to avoid the heat. It looks and works great there.
