I recommend going with the 8 inch or 9 inch they are easier to work on and are more widely used....I also dont think a 8.8 is much stronger than an 8 inch and its way I mean way harder to work on.

I have a 8" with 4.56 gears. The new engine is a 351W stroked to 418 and should put out around 550 to 600 at the flywheel. The new trans is a T56, I'm just not sure that the 8" is up to it and finding a 9" is a pain and when you do find one they want an arm and a leg for it.

8.8" rearends are stronger than an 8", the 9" is stronger yet. Many people have swapped explorer and fox body 8.8" rears into their Mustangs and Cougars. Many recommend this over using an old Versailles rearend. Neither the 8.8 or Versailles is a direct bolt in. Modifications have to be made for either one but either one is a good alternative to the 8". If I remember correctly, if you find an older 9", like from an early fairlane, the 9" rear is the correct width; you just won't have discs.

for your vehicle I would purchase a currie enterprise 9 inch they make one that will be a direct bolt in for your mustang. they cost some money but if you build up an engine like that you have to control it!

I'm debating between that or maybe putting a IRS out of a 03 Cobra into it.
