Default weak dash lights in 73 convertible

I have two 1973 convertibles and both of them have extremely dim dash lights. I have chased grounds, bugged harnesses, replaced bulbs, but still havent found the problems. Even swapped the headlight switch and the printed circuit IVR. Still cannot tell when they are even on...certainly cant read the gages. Anybody got any ideas?

The dash lights are normally too dim. LEDs are a good idea. If you would prefer using regular bulbs, I recently heard that new bulb lenses (diffusers) are available in repro form and they aren't tinted as dark as the OEs. They have different colors available, also, yellow and red.

They are made for 65-70s, but I'm told that they can be easily modified to fit your 73. They're in just about all of the resto catalogs, for a set of 4 it's $10.

You could go a cheaper route as well. I took apart my gauge cluster and spray painted all the reflective sufaces and behind the gauges with white spray paint for plastic. It helped out a lot!!

These lights came too dim from the factory. My buddy's Torino is the same way. The plastic case they are in is a dark color and makes it harder to illuminate. I'm eventually getting the white faces. (If someone doesn't buy the car, and I keep it.)

Hey Greek, thanks for getting back to me. I think I will try the leds on one of the cars a nd see how it works. If not a good fix I may have to do something about the diffusers. Thanks again

Fastback, Thanks. I have heard about the light being weak but this is rediculous. I guess 40 years of aging aggrivates the oem problem. I have cleaned but not painted. I will try the led quick fix before I start that tedious operation. Thanks again.
