Default Easy Question regarding 1966 289 Vibration

I'm getting a lot of vibration through my steering wheel constantly even at idle. It's annoying. I recently put in new motor mounts that fit perfectly however I misplaced the two long bolts that go through the two motor mounts on both sides. I noticed that the two bolts I purchase in the hardware section of Lowe's slid through the two mounts on both sides rather easily but the bolts are real close to the same diameter as the holes they go through. I'm thinking that the two bolts may have a diameter that's too small and that the mounts are vibrating against the bolts. If I hold the floor mounted automatic trans shifter there is no vibration at any speed. Can you give me your thinking on this? Is there a place I can purchase the correct bolts? or do I need to search the junkyards. Could it be the belt pulleys making the vibration? Thanks.

Please elaborate. As soon as you let go of the trans. shifter handle, the car starts to shake, but does not shake when holding it?

Have you looked at the transmission to see if it moves around while underneath the car? Have you checked the trans. cross member and trans. mount?

I'm not sure I understand what you are talking about regarding the motor mount bolts. I would not use hardware store bolts, unless they are hardened steel. I would order new bolts from a Mustang vendor.

I think your exactly right, the bolts are too small a diameter. I tried looking on at a few places, they sell the whole motor mount brackets that include the bolts $$$$. You could give Mustangs Unlimited (or any Mustang vendor) a call they might be able to help you out or like you said try a junk yard.
What year Mustang do you have? 6 cyl. V8?

Mustangs Unlimited has Thru Bolts Item# AMK508 $9.95, it states that there for 1970-1973. From what I can see 66-70 were the same. You might what to give them a call to confirm that there good for a 66.

Good Luck
