Default few questions, 68/70 body, 89 GM power train.

1st question i have is about using an engine (302) trans (?) and drive shaft/rear end from an 89 grand marque in a 68 or 70 mustang.

next question i have starts with a story...

2 summers ago i bought a 68 stang that was in bad shape... the guy painted over bondo and i lost about $5,000 by the time i got rid of the car...

from what i have found most body parts (everything except A pillers) are easy to come by. i have learned to weld since i last fought with a mustang and am really considering just building one from scratch.

any opinions on building a body from scratch and which one would be more profitable. 1968 shelby gt500 fastback clone or 1970 boss clone? or a convertable or other model?

i would probably take the vin from the grand marque and register the mustang with it.

The engine will work with some things changed the tranny will with the right cross member driveshaft is probably too long and the rear end won't with out a lot of work do to it.Swaping vins is illegal and any cop can tell a mustang from a grand marques.Only way to get any money out of restoring a mustang takes years of owning it you won't flip it and make money.

you may as well just buy one of those all new fastback bodys that they reproduce then you can do as you wish for the drive train itll save alot of leg work rounding up the parts and no rust to worry about

it was a coupe and i junked it already... floor pans, quarters, cowl box, fire wall, rear frame rails, front frame rails, and right front inner fender were all shot. plus the trunk pan was creased (covered with junk when i bought it) both fenders and doors were covered in bondo...

but anyways... ive just been looking at the parts and it looks like you could build a body for $4000-$5000

im gunna make a list while i watch a movie and il change the topic of the thread...

well im going off a mustangs unlimited catalog (only catalog i still have around)

this is what i have come up with as far as the body/frame is concerned. (im rounding to the nearest dollar)

floor pan kit 530
trunk floor 425
quarters 800
rear frame rails 450
front frame rails 240
inner wheel house 184
transition panel 275
trunk divider 250
firewall 220
cowl 300
shock towers and inner fenders 360

some braces and stuffs, radiator supports... maybe another $1000

the things i cant seem to find are dash, and A pillers...

but i figure for $5,000 and some welding i could have a "new" fast back body... even if i bought a $2,000 welder and $500 of wire it would still be cheaper than a $15,000 body...
