Default 1967 Mustang Coupe Replace Speedometer

I have a 289 with AOD transmission. The speedometer cable will not slide all the way into the speedo. After looking at the defective speedo and comparing it to the new one I found that where the cable slides in, on the new one there appears to be a c-clip installed. The defective one doesn't have it. I don't think is the problem though, as the cable slides in about 1/2 way, then stops. I stuck a toothpick into the hole on both speedo's and the depth is the same- I thought maybe it just had something in it. I have tried "clocking" or turning the speedo to get cable to slide in from a different position, but nothing seems to help. I'm totally out of ideas. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you might have the wrong cable.Try this website www.transmissioncenter.org/classic_mustang_to_aod_conversion.htm , you might want to give them a call.
