You can go with a spool setup if you want 100% posi all the time.

There are a few choices:
Find one in a junk yard. Good luck.
Or, buy the limited slip unit from a local auto parts swap meet. Then buy a manual on how to set it up. Then do it yourself. People on this forum can guide you along. It does require some special tools to set backlash.
The safest economic way to do it is to find a complete rebuilt third member with limited slip at the local swap meet. Not sure what this would cost in NC, but a LS 9" can be found for $400-$700 out here in CA.
Also, ebay or craigslist might work.

A spool should only be used in a drag only car.

The 8" limited slip or "Posi" units are an extremely rare find in a factory set up. The aftermarket has them for a price, they ain't cheap. Companies like Currie, Moser, Auburn, Eaton and Strange may offer what you need. The performance market concentrates on the 9" and the 8" is more like an orphan.

You definitely don't want to use a locking spool. These are for straight line use only. You will run into huge problems with one on the street.

I just put an auburn in my 66 stang. It was the only thing available to me. The box said it would fill all 8in gear ratios. It will not fit a 2:80. It works great !

another option would be to add a "lunchbox" locker like a lock-rite to your existing carrier.eBay Motors: FORD 8 INCH 28 SPL LOCK RIGHT LOCKER FOR OPEN CARRIER (item 120391527894 end time Apr-12-09 09:57:10 PDT)

I've used one of the "Lunchbox" lockers in my Ranger for over 30K miles. The "LockRight" is the tough one. I'm using the "No-Slip" that is for more steet orientated use. Easy to install in the driveway. No having to set the gears up or anything, takes about two hours to do. Runs about $480.
