Question fuse wired into the voltage regulator?

i have a 71 mach 1 with a 351w and recently changed out my voltage regulator and alternator wiring harness and noticed what looked like a fuse that was wired into the wiring harness from the alternator to the regulator. it's not the inline fuse right off the alternator but a little cylindrical capacitor looking thing that was mounted to the side wall next to the regulator. i dont have a picture, but does anyone know what this is and where i can aquire a new one? kinda looks like the condensor in a points distributor but black. thanks.

It's used as a noise suppressor to limit alternator whine in the radio.

You are more likely to find a new buggy whip. No one sells suppression condensers unless you can find an NOS one for $$$. 1) You probably don't need it, and 2) if you want use a regular ignition capacitor or two. The ones on the regulator were about 1/2 microfarad and an ignition capacitor is around 1/4 microfarad.

They used to come with every radio installation kit. But that was the good old days and both the days and the condensers are gone.

Did you guys have a revolution? I thought FWB was in Florida.

I'm must be a little slow today. You already HAVE the condenser for your regulator. Why do you need a new one? They rarely, if ever, go bad. Just use the old one. Likely any you find wouldn't be any newer anyway.

Just to make sure that IS what you have: It should have a number on the flat end of it that has the digits -18832- in it. That is the number of a regulator condenser. I don't know how often they updated that part but for a '66 it would have been a # C6OE-18832-A

i dont have it anymore. threw it away. the wire for it was completely corroded and broke just inside it. reason for the new harness. but if i dont need it then i'm not gonna worry about it. just had no idea what it was and wanted to find out. thanks for the help though.

Mine was missing on my 72 stang and I purchased one here. Classic Mustang NOISE SUPRESSOR. I noticed mine missing doing a 351w 4spd upgrade.

Hello. John's Mustang is only about 5 miles or so from my house, and one of the many reasons that I don't go there is because, if John has an item like that for sale for 20 bucks, that means that he is buying them for 10 bucks from either Tommy Vaughn Ford or Autozone. Since he's calling it a reproduction, he's probably getting them from Autozone or O'Reilly's.

That was the only time I have used them. I seened 1973 style window cranks being sold as 71-73 cranks which is wrong then was in an auto zone and the 73 ones for 6 bucks. They were selling for 20$ on line.

Hi again. Before we bought the house that we live in now about ten years ago, I used to drive right past John's Mustang, and then drive an additional thirty miles to go to a place called Mustang Mania if I needed to buy something.

Wherever John is getting his condenser I doubt it is from Ford or Autozone. I checked at both of those places and they gave me the 'what-planet-are-you-from' treatment. I think I did finally find a Ford dealer in OK who had an NOS one for $60 (plus $15 shipping) but I declined.

From the looks of the picture, John's appears to be a standard ignition condenser (capacitor to a EE) with a bullet connector on the side. Anyone could easily buy one of those except for the bullet. Also, beware, there is more than one size of those bullets and you need the one that fits the regulator plug.

An ignition condenser will sort of work except the capacitance is 1/2 what it should be which probably explains why they are usually about half size. I couldn't find any that were truly the correct shape and all were quite undersized once I got them in my hands. A Farmall Cub tractor one looks correct except its made to about a 2/3 scale. I gave up and made one out of 30 year old NOS parts from Ford and Blaupunkt.

Hi again. This is another of the many reasons that I don't go to John's. It's been my experience that he'll do that sort of thing in a heartbeat.
