Not too savy on the classics but maybe a starter solenoid?

Are you running a component that has a high current (Amperage) draw through the ignition switch such as a cooling fan, stereo amp or fuel pump? These items require a relay to keep from frying the ignition switch contacts.

The starter solenoid should only be powered up with the ignition switch in the start position. Never in any other position.
