Default Have Mustang convertible top junction block I can't identify.

A month ago I purchased from ebay auction a junction block that was described as being "66-69 Mustang Convertible Junction Block NOS 67-68" and have yet been able to identify as to what it is used for and where it would mount in my 66. The numbers on the box are DY-141 and D3TZ-14448-A and it describes it as S1 JCT BLOCK. It is a Motorcraft (Ford) product. The seller thought it mounted on the front inside fender well next to the starter relay and was for the power top, but for my car this is not true according to my wiring diagram and the lack of mounting holes. The physical description of the junction block is: large 2 1/2 inches long, 1/2 inch wide and 1 inch high with one terminal and yellow in color. The number on the block is D3TB-1448AA, as best as I can see using high magnifaction. I believe the key to this is to be able to link the Ford number to the part and the car it goes on which I seem incapable of doing.

Thanks in advance of any responses

Hello. That junction block was originally intended for the ammeter gauge wires of a Ford truck. The original part number was C7TZ-14448-C, but that number was replaced by the D3TZ-14448-A. The single post had the two wires that are for the ammeter gauge, instead of the plug-together set-up of a 65/66 Mustang. The reason that I happen to know that is because that's also a part that was used in the ammeter gauge wiring of the 67 Shelbys. It has absolutely nothing to do with a power top.

Thanks Veronica - you came through again - you wouldn't believe where all I have looked for an answer. The description the person that sold it to me was incorrect and after I confronted him, he addmited he didn't have a clue as to what he was selling - I got the similar results from Mustang Steve, which supprised me - From now on I know where to ask a question if I want the correct answer.

Thanks again jhc

Hi again. Thank you. That is very kind of you. I would have thought that Mustang Steve would be all over this one. He's very knowledgeable about these cars.

The circuit braker you are looking for is a 50 amp. It is round in appearence and does mount near the starter relay. It has two terminals on it.

Hi again. On the 65/66 Mustangs, the circuit breaker was a 20 amp. People don't have 50 amp breakers on the main breaker box on the side of their houses, except for the one main breaker. Also. it was rectangular in appearance, with the two posts. This is the original piece that I still have on my car. There were a couple of different ways used to mount them. One, the most common, was, there was a metal tab attached to one of the posts, which was hooked straight to the hot side of the starter solenoid. Another was that it was attached to the inner fender panel, between the battery and starter solenoid, and had a jumper wire going from one of the posts of the breaker to the hot side of the starter solenoid. Both of those ways had the power top pump feed wire attached to the other post of the breaker. Also, some San Jose built 66s actually did use a single post junction block, but it was completely different from what this gentleman has purchased. I've got a few of them sitting around in a box somewhere. I'll see if I can dig one up and get a picture of it to post.

My apoligies, Veronica, your absolutely right. I was thinking of the wrong car. My 63 Thunderbird convertible had the 50 amp round one. My 64 Falcon has the one like you described. Sorry if confused anyone.

Hi again. No apologies necessary. I thought that sounded like one of those things from an old Sports Roadster T-Bird. An exceptionally cool car, btw. I love to watch the top go up and down on those things.

That's the one. I had a 63 Sport Roadster. It is long gone, but wish I still had it. I think there is a picture of it on my web page. The Ford manual called the action when the top went down the top retract cycle and when it went up it was called the top erect cycle. I was attending a Thunderbird event one day when it started to rain. I ran to my car and started putting the top up and a friend snapped a picture of it. About a week later I recieved the picture from him with a caption written one it. It said, "your car is having an erection".
