Unhappy 1967 dash guage problem

Good morning, new guy here, been playing with mustangs for as long as I can remember. I hope someone can enlighten me.
I have a problem on a `67 fastback. The guages don`t move in a slow sweep action, they jump a little at a time, only when I ground the individual wire.
I`ve replaced the IC voltage regulator with a solid state unit.
Everything else electrically works.
Anyone?

Thanks,
John

Individual wire? Do you mean the wire that goes to the sender?

Hello. A little history on the car would be helpful. If this is a car that has been sitting around without having had the key turned on for years, what you describe makes perfect sense. If you have just recently acquired the car, and suspect that this might be the case, again, this makes sense. If this is a car that you have had for a while, and the gauges were working fine, but, it all of a sudden started doing this, that will probably be some sort of problem on that wire that brings power from the ignition switch to the instrument cluster voltage regulator. How are the turn signals acting?

Thanks for the reply , yes the wire to the sender.
The car has gone through a complete rebuild, up to and including the wiring harnesses replaced.
I have everything working , but the guages.
I has been in the garage (part time project) foir approx 4 yrs.
Turn signals are fine 4 ways are fine ... everything works like it should.
