1967 Mustang Coupe 289 Single Exhaust Concerns I just purchased a 1967 Mustang coupe with the original 289, 110,000 miles on it. The car runs great, love it, but I could use some more power. I want to convert the car from a single exhaust to a dual for 3 reasons: a) Power b) Sound c) I think it just looks better.
I am wondering how difficult it is to even convert a 1967 mustang coupe from single to dual exhaust, with an original 289. What type of headers work best for an increase in power, and what type of exhaust? Is it best to have a 3'', 2.5'', or 2.25''? Would an X, H, or straight type be best? I would like to have the exhaust run straight out the back, I've always liked that look. Is ceramic necessary, and what about heat resistant paint? I know very little about exhaust so I know I'm asking a lot of questions at once. Is this a massive job, or is this something I could accomplish on my own? Can I use one companies headers, and another companies exhaust kits? Do I need a muffler? The engine is original, but if I do decide to replace the engine sooner or later, say to a hi-po 289 or a 302, do I need to replace the whole exhaust system? Any help on ANY of these areas would be immensly appreciated. Any if anyone has any other ideas on how to beef up my very stock looking 67 appearance or performance wise, I am absolutely all ears and open to suggestions. |
