Default 1970 mustang coupe side scoops

I have a 1970 coupe that when I bought it had shelby stlye side scoops on it, they are located about half way up the side directly below the rear windows. I dont like them, so I'm starting to get it ready to paint and removed them. I expected the hole that someone had drilled to attach them but wasn't expecting the shallow, approx .75" deep indention in the panel that it was covering. The indention is about 2" wide and 4" tall and is slightly curved. it also has 6 mounting holes for something in addition to the holes for the old scoops. I never seen anything on a coupe that fits there and have looked at every picture of a 70 coupe I can find and haven't seen anything that matches this on any coupe. This indention was obviously stamped into the panel and is not something done by an owner of the car. This quarterpanels on the car may have been replaced at some point as there is no rust in them. Any clue to what this is?

Could be quarter panels, from a 1969 coupe they will fit the 1970 coupe, Mike. SCT Tuner.

The quarters were replaced with 1969 quarters at some point. The indentation was for a little decorative piece that you can see on all 1969 coupes.

Not being all that concerned about how "correct" the car is, just a daily driver, what do you think would be better, filling these indentions in or putting whatever goes there on? I guess I need to look at some 69's to see what your talking about

It's a little finned piece that screws on there. I think they are always painted with the body color. Here's one on a convertible-

They also could of, came off the California Special Coupe. I saw the photo, but what he was referring to was like a SHELBY side scoop behind the door. That piece is standard, on the GT Convertible and faces back, Mike. SCT Tuner.

Now I see, what I dont understand is the mustang in the link shows the piece pointed to the rear and on other 69's I have found it is pointed forward, which is correct. Also I can find the chrome part in many catalogs but I believe it attaches to the other part which attaches to the body panel. Is this correct, I cant seem to find this part anywhere?
