I clean the cowl with a thin but long air nozzle.

The bodyshops also have an attachment for painting ....that goes between the vents to paint that area.

I found a hole on either side of the cowl when I took the fenders off, so I can clean out with a smaller hose on my shop vac...but I am still a little sketchy about spraying in there!!!

I had that very same question a while back. I checked out tons of different mustangs at different shows I went to seeing how it was done. In the end, the consensus was this - most were still bare metal as they came from the factory, so any paint in there was overspray from doing the rest of the car and spraying over the vent. OR if the person had repaired the cowl and there was an opportunity that the inside was exposed during the repair, they painted in there at that point in time. It comes down to how far you want to take it.

That most of the paint in there was overspray doesn't surprise me. But there has to be SOME decent paint in there or its gonna rust.

Does anyone have a picture of one of these long snouts on a spray gun?

These days one can just buy a gravity fed airbrush and use that.

Won't the hose connection on the bottom of most (all?) airbrushes interfere with getting the nozzle close enough to the cowl slits? Even a small nozzle has to be very close to those slits or most of the paint will never make it down inside.
