Default Disc Brake Conversion kits... HELP

Hi Guys,

I have a 65 Coupe 289 C-4 Man Steer W/air Front and rear Man drums.
I want to convert the Front drums to Disc.

Now, I've been searching and finding all kinds..

Option # 1

Option # 2 Classic Mustang Parts On Line Catalog - Product Description: 64-66 DISC BRAKE CONVERSION KIT - FRONT - V8

Option # 3
Mustang Brake Conversion Kits Mustang Power Steering Kits Product Detail

Option # 4
Classic Mustang FRONT DRUM TO DISC BRAKE CONVERSION KIT (65-69)

Option # 5

65-66 FRONT DRUM TO DISC BRAKE CONVERSION KIT WITH DUAL RESERVOIR MASTER CYLINDER

Option # 6

Stainless Steel Brakes A120D - Stainless Steel Brakes Front Drum to Disc Brake Conversion Kits

Option # 7

YearOne Online Shopping

And there is also NPD and Mustangs unlimited etc.

Confused?

I am.

So how to make the right decision?

I would appreciate any input

Thanx

i would personally go with SSBC(stainless steel brake from summit) they are a good name and product.and they beat the others on price. unless you need the four lug kit that is posted and i'm sure they could help w/that also.or find a mid seventies granada.

Hi! I know how confusing it is and we want to save money! I first bought a used front disc brake setup off of ebay, only to find the only thing usable were the spindles! If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with Chocostang(on Ebay). I forget the family owned and operated business phone number, but he was so helpful! If you're trying to go as least expesive as possible and make no purchasing mistakes, I'd use choco! I went from drum/drum to power front/rear drum. I bought the drums/shoes/hardware a little later from choco, again he had the best price. However, when you go to buy, then don't shop for them anymore! Hope this helps!

I don't know the difference between your year model and my '67. I'm becoming an expert on my '67! Also you'll have to make a choice as to what you're going to do about a proportioning valve. I went with the SSBC adjustable PPV from Summit racing. I honestly don't know how a person would do this with the motor in the car! I was able to climb in my engine compartment, bend, shape brake lines as all my lines are new and had to be made/formed to fit! My friend here in Houston is working on his 66, I'll take a look and see what he did.

Default backing plate mod

This is something I did too which may be of interest to some. I was going to go with the Crown Vic rear brake set up, but found it to be to involved, and I still have it is someone would like to buy it. I bolted the backing plate to the rear axle housing. Counter sunk the holes on the backing plate to not be in the way of the rear axle retainer, then drilled/taped holes in the rear axle flange, then a lock nut on the backside. This way when removing the rear axles, the backing plate will stay put!

I would suggest you look at CSRP.
The complete kit with everything you need for $525.
Welcome to CSRP
I am really happy with mine.

I'd check out the Wilwood kit. Brake Kits
They look great and any speed shop carries the pads for them. The same calipers are used on countless race cars in all types of racing, so they are proven and very dependable. If you look at the rear kits they have a parking brake which is required in most states. They fit both the 8" and 9" rears. They stop like hell too.

wilwood kit is nice but do you really need cross drilled rotors and such? how are you going to use car? CRSP looks good is priced right and looks like almost stock 70's ford parts without the trouble of rehashing old granada parts. SSBC looks to be in the middle ground. i guess it is personal choice depending on use, budget, etc. either will be upgrade from drum.

Great kit, great price and support

You'll probably also be able to use original wheels -- I was w/ the 68

I used the SSBC kit because I wanted to keep the 14 inch wheels. Easy installation and it works great.

If your willing to run a 17 or bigger cobrabrakes scarebird kit i wouldn't use don't trust there brackets and using ranger rotors and s10 calipers its not going to stop that much better then drums.
