Default 67 mustang with high pitch radio wine

Have installed a USA radio and disk changer in my 67 GTA and plugged in my Ipod using the FM tuner. Everything works fine until you start the car, then I get a high pitch wine that increases with rpm. Not a problem with the CD player sound, just the FM connection. I'm sure a whole bunch of people have experienced this problem-can someone please tell me how they fixed it.
Thanks.

There may be a problem with a bad diode in the alternator. This may be causing the noise. You will need to check the output of the alternator to confirm its condition. Output at idle should be 13.8 to 14.2 volts, give or take a few tenths of a volt.

Another source of the signal may be the lack or failure of the sound suppressor capacitor that is located at the voltage regulator. It looks like a small cylinder with one wire coming out of one end. The cylinder looking portion has a small clamp around it and it mounts to the radiator support with a sheetmetal screw. These capacitors rarely fail and most times it's a failing alt. diode.

If you are using solid core ignition wires, this could also be a source of the problem. When I'm referring to solid core, I mean ign. wires that contain a stranded copper wire instead of the sound supression type with a carbon core with or without a thin strand of copper wire wrapped around the carbon.

If everything checks out and the alternator's output is good and there's still noise. Have the alt. checked on a testing machine. It should be able to detect a failing diode.

Thank you for the response - I'll check it out and hopefully end up with clean pure tunes.

I would also check your battery connections. These can also cause noise if dirty. There are several noise filters you can buy that are simple to install.

Default Radio whine...Wire radio directly to battery!

Run the ground & power wires from your stereo through a fuse and directly to your battery. This is how professional radio shops do it. It's a guaranteed solution. Don't waste your money on filters or any other gadgets.
