Default 1965 coupe v8. questions about T5 conversion.

Well, I have been doing some research about doing a T5 swap into a 1st-gen Mustang. I think I might already have most of the parts, but I want to ask around before I drop the hammer.

What I have is an '84 GT 347 with a T5. My concern is that having a stripped down race car just doesn't appeal to me much anymore (I've had it since I was 17...I'm now almost 30). So I've been thinking about buying my girlfriend's brother's '65.

His car WAS an original 6 cylinder car. However, someone before him yanked the 200 and put in a junkyard 302. This car could make a GREAT cruiser. And it already has many upgrades (5-lug conversion, SSBC disc brakes, fiberglass cowl hood, Torque Thrust wheels, Tri-Y's with Flowmasters). The interior is pretty nice on his car...so if this T5 conversion gets the green light, I could have a rear end swap and a paint job keeping us from having a GREAT summer cruiser!

I really just have three questions about putting my engine/trans in his car.

1. Since I already have a functional engine/clutch/trans, can this swap be as simple as buying the clutch cable conversion from Modern Driveline?

2. Should the Tri-Y's work with the T5?

3. Does anyone have any pictures of their conversion?

Where did you get your trans crossmember from? I'm sure there are plenty out there...I'm just curious.

It would be better in my opinion to go with a hydraulic clutch than with the cable. The cable puts lots of stress on the firewall and will eventually burn, break , bind or all three. Here is an article that covers how to do it on a 65-66 mustang http://midnightdsigns.com/Mustang/HYD%20Clutch.htm

go hydraulic, works great!
I made my own crossmember, took some welding and fabrication, but better than pating $130 for some metal
