Default MSD6AL .... Why ?

I see a huge amount of people using these.

Why ?

Seems like a pretty high price for something which might not have much of a benefit in performance or economy.

Please Enlighten me.

What are the primary advantages (dyno sheets or other documentation ?) of using an MSD6AL (or similiar) ?

I'll be running a Duraspark on a "somewhat healthy" street, road-trip, and auto-X 306 once I get everything done on my restomod ....

In an n/a car? no. However in Supercharged apps, its better...whats even better is if the MSD has a timing retard advance.

its in the name. MSD, multi spark discharge! below about 3500 rpm every time the plug fires it fires multable times. better h.p. and better fuel milage, longer plug life.

MSD6a - multiple sparks per compression stroke equals better burn of all fuel in chamber.

MSD6aL - all the benefits of the 6a with a built in rev limiter to help keep you from over revving the car if/when you miss a shift and tearing your nice engine apart.

Pair either one up with an MSD dizzy with a mechanical advance and you have added about as precise an ignition system as you can put in a distributor powered car and will certainly aid in squeezing every last bit of power out of you motor while also improving overall efficiency in normal driving conditions.

I could certainly link you to MSD's page where they have 'documentation' about the benefits of their product, but you certainly don't sound like you are on the fence so it wouldn't do much good. There are many good competing electronic control boxes on the market.

Always trust a manufacturer to provide the best independent
testing and documentation of their own products

.... I guess I'll have a look at MSD's "documentation" anyway ...

I was hoping that somewhere in the history of the internet anyone other than a CD Box manufacturer had done some independent tests to prove what MSD claims ...
