Default 66 Ignition Switch

Hi All - I have a pair of 66 Mustangs - one coupe and one GT convertible. I replaced the ignition switch in my coupe about 20 years ago and had no problems. I am however having some issues with the one in my GT now. I can barely get my hands back behind the switch (the GT has Air). Do I need to remove the air conditioning to gain access? or is there a trick to getting the switch pushed out to turn it counter clockwise and remove the face? Any help here would be much appreciated.

Sincerely - Sore Bloody Knuckles

Hello. I always pull the instrument cluster out to do that. I can't imagine how difficult it would be if I was trying to reach from underneath.
