Default Clutch replacement recconmendations

I currently have an 1972 mustang with a 351w and a 4spd. I have a zoom diaphram style clutch in it currently that was a dual kevlar. I was going was from second to third while tires were spinning and the clutch let loose and started slipping and smoking. It didn't have many miles on it and I don't want to use same brand again. What are you guys running in your classic 4 spds.

you were spinning enough in second and shift to third with them still spinning? thats amazing. anyway, i have used ZOOM clutches for many years and never had an issue. and why would you have a diaphram p/p and not a long style?

I switched to a diaphram maybe five years ago, they seem to engage more evenly with several fingers than with three. I loved the difference it made, the pedal wasn't as hard neither. I was able to start off in second gear and have the tires spinning like crazy. When I shifted in to third which was probally to soon the motor was reving like crazy and the car wasn't really moving. Cindy do you use the standard oem style zoom clutches. I thought I felt my kevlar one slipping earlier but was in denial.

i've used all types, o.e. street, and race. mostly race stuff. spinning in second and shifting to third would really be rough on clutch. almost like starting out in third.

I like banging gears and occasionly a second gear burnout. Going into third I never did before or will again. Not sure which clutch to use, the was I am pulling out probally wouldn't of held up at the track if I decided to take this car there.

Hello there,

I have a Centerforce clutch in my car and have not had any issues with it. I occasionally race it at a local track and still no problems. I agree with upgrading from the long style pressure plate. The pedal feel was much better and didn't kill my leg during the parades that I usually participate in. Hope that helps.

I brought flywheel to machine shop today and had it resurfaced. The zoom kevlar clutch I had in it wore down considerably and cut into the pressure plate. It couldn't just happend on the incedent I decribed earlier. The machine shop is going to re-drill my flywheel for an 11'' clutch since I was only able to use a 10" in the past. I will use a oem street style clutch(no kevlar) since it will be larger anway. I will also have the pressure plate balanced.
