Exclamation Help 1968 coupe brake problems

Ok my brakes still dont work after replacing...

-shoes
-wheel cylinders
-springs
-master cylinder

Ive bled the s*** out of them and i have no brakes @ all.

I just replaced the master cylinder tonight and i bled everything and i have no brakes. Can i still have air trapped in the system? Does anyone have an answer to my problem?

Please don't take this the wrong way.
But the fact that you asking this question, suggests that you shouldn't be working on brakes.
Take it to a brake specialist, please.

Hello. If you don't manually adjust the shoes outward to near where they're supposed to be, no amount of bleeding will get the brakes working. The pedal keeps going until all four shoes hit something. If the shoes have to travel too far, the pedal hits the floor first. But, yes, I would agree that it would be an awfully good idea to have someone go over the brakes that is thoroughly familiar with how they work. That is a system that can kill you if it fails, so, don't try to cut corners on that.

Hi,

Your master cylinder may need a proper bench bleed, see attached destructions.

Steve

PS. Rocky might have a point, this is the most important part of your car, if it doesnt stop it'll f**k you and other people up.

I never did try to adjust the shoes outward yet due to the fact that i havent driven it yet. I bench bled the master cylinder too. I will take it to a expert to have them check over what i have done. Im pretty sure i assembled everything correctly and i just thought that the automatic adjusters would adjust the shoes out to their proper distance.

To adjust brake shoes you need to remove the rubber plug on the backing plate and turn the star wheel just enough so while turning the brake drum, you can barely hear the shoes rub.
Also, the brake shoes won't completely center themselves until a few presses of the pedal with the drum on.

The way the Ford Braking system works is when the pedal is depressed ,the rear brakes come on first then the front brakes take over the main braking of the vehicle and it does all this through the BPV (Brake Proportioning Valve).

As already mentioned ..Brakes is the #1 concern on a vehicle and if one doesn't really know that much about them ,working on them shouldn't be attempted.

If you need any help im just up the road from you, but just jack the car up to where you tires are off the ground and start adjusting till when you spin the wheels you hear a little bit of "scratching" after that drive it aound your neihborhood and see how they feel if they are a little loose or pulling to one side adjust them out a little more
