Default 8 inch rear end

hi guys, i've been looking around for rear ends to change my 66 mustang's 4 lug to a 5 lug and i have a guy thats selling an 8 inch 5 lug out of a 66 ranchero and i was looking but couldn't find the width or the ratio of the rancheros rear end and i was wondering if anyone on here might happen to know that data or know where i could find it?

thanks
jon

Not sure about the 66 Ranchero rear end but 57-59 is the same. It needs to be 57.25 inches.
Wasn't the 66 Ranchero just a Falcon with a bed in the back. I know the tread dims of the 2 are the same 58". The 65-66 mustang tread dims are 56", so with that said I think the axle for the ranchero won't likely fit.
I'm doing the same thing to my 66 Mustang eventually, so I'm interested in knowing the answer.

The 66 Ranchero has 41 1/4" spring seat centers. These axle housings retro fit the 66-67 Fairlane and Comet Station wagons, 68-69 Montego and Torino Station wagons.

The spring centers are narrower and the axle housing wider. My references state that the only direct fit 8" housing is from the V8 equipped 64 and 65 Falcon. If my memory serves me right, the Granada 8" rear may fit. At the moment my reference on this is going to take some searching.

This may be along shot, I would get a 9 inch from a 57 ford if you can find one. That way you get a stronger rear end with better gear selection. You will have to get the drive shaft shortened, new bearings and seals. Sorry I do not remember all the details. I did this to my 65 fastback in 1966.

I have an axle housing without tapered tubes. They are about 3" dia. How can I tell if the housing is from a Granada? Anyone know?
