I finally got the Conv back from the painter after replacing the front end due to crash damage. On the ride home from the shop the car made a sound that was similar to if something were stuck into a fan while running. I've checked the fan and it isn't hitting anything. The noise only occurs under modest to hard acceleration, and most every time, if you come off the gas and go back on, the noise will stop.
I've been able to rule out the power steering pump and the alternator, by removing the drive belts for each, one at a time. It really sounds to me like it is coming from the Torque converter.
During the repairs the radiator was removed to be patched ( it was pushed into the fan) and so a lot of the
trans fluid drained out. I am concerned that they first, may not have used the F type
trans fluid, and, they appear to have overfilled it. My current plan is to drain the
tranny, and refill it to the proper level with fresh "F" type fluid. But I am also open to anyother ideas as to what this might be.
Suggestions?
