Default pulling out 289 with C4 together 1 ton lift enough?

i was going to go to harbor freight pick up a engine lift for $169
- Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

i have a 20% off coupon so i would be getting it for about $135 or something. its a 1 ton foldable, but im just wondering if it will be safe to pull out both at the same time.

also my car is about 2 feet off the ground on jacks and no wheels, would i need to lower the car to pull both out, or do these things go up pretty high? thx!

It would pull it out but never that high off the ground. Even with your car on the ground you'd have to have somebody lift up on the tailshaft of the transmission to clear the radiator support.

Why pull it as one? Ive done it that way once. Now I always drop the trans out the bottom first.

this guy wants engine and tranny, i figured it would be easier to pull both at once but probably best to pull one at a time. even if i do it just the engine i would still have to lower the car right?

ill probably pull the tranny then lower the car on the lowest jack setting 12" and then pull the engine.

i borrowed frinds 1 ton lift so i should be good to go for now

I always pull both at the same time. The one ton lift will work just fine. I found that using a lifting eye that attaches to the intake manifold allows you to use the shortest length between the engine and the lift's boom. This will maximize the lifting ability of the hoist.

You'll want to have a smooth surface for the hoist to roll on because the slightest pebble or crack in the floor will make moving it a real pain with all of that weight on it. A sheet of plywood works. If you pull the engine and trans together, the trans tail shaft will drag on the floor at some point, so you'll need to watch for that.

I just find it easier to fasten and unfasten the engine and trans outside of the car. I'm no spring chicken and going back and forth from under the car isn't as easy as it used to be.

whats the lift eye, do you happen to have a picture of it handy? also do you think 2 feet off the ground would give me a issue and i would have to put the car down about a foot?

by the way, do you have to drain the engine from coolant and oil, and drain the tranny as well? im wondering if there will be fluids all over the place with it being tilted and all

Just drain the antifreeze.......they make a cap for the tailshaft..........or you can use an old yoke to keep the tranny from bleeding all over the floor.once everything is disconnected, support the tranny w/ a floor jack& remove the cross member for the tranny.............i take the hood off also...............after that just get some strong friends to help you muscle it out as one assembly.

ps.........motor mounts too!
