Default Electric choke not shutting when cold,

This is a holley 600 on a 351c.When im on the highway going about 60mph @2500rpm i can hear a slight backfire. When i exited the highway it sputtered and died. The smell of gas was strong.15 min later it started when i held the peddel to the floor. It would not stay running at stop lights, haft to put it in neuteral then drive. Now it's been 4 hrs later and the choke is still open.I turned my fuel/air screws in 1/2 turn. They where 1 1/2 turns out from seating to start with. Thanks

It sounds to me that you need to check your float levels on that 600 holley, before you do any thing else..If it has a stong smell of gasoline its probably that the floats are set too high and she's flooding. You can check it by undoing the inspection plugs on the float bowls. If fuel pours out its either too high..or the seat mechanism is faulty or jammed, causing it to flood..
